A few words about me:
I live in Berkeley with my historian husband, Tim Rose, and two daughters, and work at the San Francisco Writers' Grotto, a writers’ collective in the city.
I'm a journalist by trade. I have an M.A. in Print Journalism from the University of Southern California and have written for the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, The Guardian, and many other publications.
My first book, Jesus Land – a memoir about growing up in a strict Christian environment with an adopted black brother – was a New York Times and London Times bestseller.
There are many correlations between Jesus Land and A Thousand Lives, especially in matters dealing with race, seclusion and oppressive belief systems.
